About Sylvain
Dr. Mailhot is a pathologist for more than 20 years now. He led several pathology laboratories in various contexts. He actively devotes his career to solving challenges around pathology and cancer diagnostic processes. His passion is mainly around using new technologies to improve pathology team productivity as well as improving outcome quality.
As a pathologist or as a laboratory medical director, he deployed several lab technologies. He knows and understands pathologists’ and directors’ priorities and challenges.
Dr. Mailhot managed the CISSS Rimouski-Neigette’s pathology department for 14 years. The department provided regional pathology services for all hospitals in eastern Québec. Already, back then, he started creating and implementing report standardization, error detection and productivity solutions. He designed and developed the pathology software PathAssistant, sold as M14 by Omnitech Labs. He is also co-founder and former CEO of the Moncton-based private digital pathology lab PathAssistant Laboratory. The lab employs 10 pathologists located in 4 different Canadian provinces and manages 10,000 slides from 7 different hospitals each month. The lab was sold to Biron Groupe Santé in 2020.
